Parque Nacional Barra Honda

Description: This park protects a vast cave system, 42 of which have been explored. The park is a wilderness of pitted limestone uplands that rise from the Tempisque flood plane and are covered with relatively open dry forest. The highest point Cerro Barra Honda 445 m, (1,468 feet) provides a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. There are trails, shelters for picnics, latrines, drinking water and camping area. You may be able to observe monkeys, anteaters, and scarlet macaws. In the caves there are blind fish and salamanders that have adopted to the darkness.
